Do you have a map of some sort that I can use as a part of town?

I will be unable to make it tonight due to work (again...). Next friday seems to be good for the time being. Sorry about last week; I didn't read the un-cancellation post until too late (I was out and about with family).

The party was able to defend the town from a group of vampires (although a few townspeople were killed off), and they've begun to invade the vampire lord's hideout. Meanwhile, two pairs of magic gloves were delivered to the party's room at the inn. Unfortunately, they were both cursed to also change the wearer's appearance. Still, Butters and Patrin were brave enough to put them on...

I'll be working next Friday, so I'm planning our next session for two weeks out, the 30th. Let me know if you can make it.

So, I came up with a bit more to flesh out the backstory.

The party was a group of mercenaries in King Gwendavyn's army, under the command of General Darvis. The general was trusted by the King, but his loyalties were only to himself. Darvis entered into a deal with a war profiteer named Iselien; he would start a war between his own kingdom and a nearby dwarven one, and in return would get a hefty cut of the profiteer's earnings. The party stumbled across some evidence of the treachery, and decided to use the information to blackmail and extort the general. The general eventually had enough, and decided to end the problem. The party was able to turn the tables on him and kill Darvis, but not cleanly; the rest of the army found out quickly enough, and the party's been on the run since. They've managed to find the town of Barrinsgate and join one of the gangs ruling the streets, working their way partially up the ranks, but the army is still searching, and Iselien isn't too thrilled about her plan being interrupted.

So, the thoughts: this gives the army a reason to go after the party, as well as another faction separate from the army that's also after the party. It also gives the party a way out of each problem; the king would pull off the army if Darvis' treachery were exposed, and Iselien, being a profiteer, would probably be willing to enter into business with the party, if they're persuasive enough.

Now, to flesh out the town.

The city's broken up into eight main districts:

The Market District is the largest part of commerce, however it's only lightly patrolled by guards. While the gangs are part of the city and follow the city's leadership, they aren't shy about less-than-legal activities here.

The Riverfront sits next to the Market District, and is a constant site of gang turf wars. Similar to the Market District, the area is only lightly patrolled by guards, with most of them turning a blind eye to the gang activity here.

The Circle is the main plaza in the center of town, and the center of the town's political leaders. This area is heavily patrolled, and the gangs don't have anywhere near as much influence here as they do in other parts of town.

The Peerage is the primary high-class residential area, although most of the nobles and other high-ranking society are former bandits and other retired ruffians.

The Temple District is the main high-class shopping district. This area, along with the Peerage, is highly guarded and gang activity is rare. However, the protection comes at a bit of a premium; most of the goods sold here are quite a bit more expensive than what could be found elsewhere.

Stumpton is a dirt-poor residential area. Guards are rarely seen, and gangs control the streets.

Fireside is a working-class district, barely better than Stumpton. As with Stumpton, the guards are few and far between, and the gangs rule.

Shantytown Slums are, as the name suggests, a slum area. There are no buildings here, only a scattering of tents with wider areas between them that act as roads. The district is actually outside the city proper, but most of the people here have jobs and other business inside the town.

Aside from the Circle, Peerage, and Temple District, the town is ruled by three main gangs, and a number of smaller ones.

The Bloody Knives are likely the largest of the three gangs. They control most of the Riverfront and Fireside. The River Rats are the second-largest group and control the rest of the Riverfront, having constant turf struggles with the Bloody Knives. They also have some influence in Stumpton. The final group is the one the party belongs to (by default it's called the Black Hearts; feel free to come up with a better name). They're the smallest of the three main groups, and are mostly confined to Stumpton.

So, now for a bit more world-building from you guys. Go ahead and come up with any details you want - details about an important building (an inn, shop, etc), details about some of the smaller gangs, whatever you guys can think of.

Alas, yet again I cannot make the day in question. I will be working in the morning, and racing off to a religious retreat immediately thereafter. Neither does next friday work, because I will be at work. I would try to get the schedule shuffled, except that I just finished stretching my supervisor's patience making havoc with the scheduling to accommodate the aforementioned retreat.

If it helps, I have today and tomorrow more or less free Confused

Edit: Regarding world-building, are you looking for things you can use, or just a tidbit here or there that you can use to make the town feel more alive and inclusive? Should we be posting recommendations where everyone can see them, or PM them to you so it will be a surprise during gameplay (and so you can steal all the credit, of course Wink)

First, Joe moved and will no longer be joining us. Second, I can show if we're going to play, but don't want to if we aren't so I hope others post by Friday afternoon. Third, I think Ank should join us at the store Thursday night for Arkham or BSG or whatever we end up playing.

Gang name Suggestions:
-The Broken Fist
-The Tombs
-Red Nail Hex
-Blackwatch
-The Velour Fog

Thoughts?

Which Joe?

Also, even if we don't have people I'll probably still show up tomorrow; I figure I can play something with whoever does show, or if nothing else I can just play Starcraft 2 some more. So, go ahead and show up and we'll get something going, at least.

As for world-building, I'm looking for both, really. If it's something that you think will just be details to flesh out the town, go ahead and post it here. If you have an idea for something that should be a bit more of a surprise, PM it to me.
